ELA
We focus on reading, writing, language, and speaking/listening.

Reading

• Learning later names and sounds they make
• Words are broken apart into sounds and syllables
• Comprehension of texts that are read aloud (main idea, characters, plot, setting, and details)

Writing

• Children use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to tell a story.
• Words are spelled using individual sounds and sight words which are learned through repetition.

Language

• Children print all upper and lower case letters
• Proper grammar is used when spelling or writing.
• Understand that a sentence begins with an upper case letter and ends with punctuation

Speaking/Listening
Children participate in conversation and learn appropriate speaking/listening rules (raise their hand, wait to be called on, listen to the speaker)

Math
Instructional time will be spent on these skills:

• Know number names and count in sequence.
• Count to tell the number of objects.
• Compare numbers to tell greater than/less than.
• Understand addition as joining together and subtraction as taking apart.

Science
Some topics we investigate are animals, nature, plants, weather, and cooking.

Social Studies
Our class learns about holidays, maps, communities, and patriotic symbols.
